Follow
this specific tutorial in order to find out who's on the other
end of a telephone number...
How
many times have you answered your phone to find it to be a
dead air call or you hear them hang up. Or maybe it was a
missed call and you have no idea who it is, but not sure if
you want to call them back. Well, there are some great ways
to trace who owns a telephone number. It is actually kind
of fun, kind of like being a detective...
There
is nothing more aggravating to have these calls comes in,
especially when you have limited minutes on your phone. Have
you ever had a crank call, or should I say, something a bit
more absurd or disgusting? Those types of calls you want to
find out who they are and report them somehow.
Well,
lets teach you how to find out just who it is on the other
end of the line. First, you want to verify that the number
does not belong to a long lost friend or relative that you
have not heard from in a while. So cross check the number
with maybe your old address book or day planner, or if you
keep track of business cards of those you have worked with.
You never know, it is good to at least cross these off your
list.
Next
we are going to check to see if it is a landline phone number.
If it is, you will be able to find it by first doing a reverse-search
of the number using Whitepages.com, Switchboard.com, and Yahoo.
This way you will be able to see if its a landline and
if it is a listed number. It may also be a business, if so,
check it through Superpages.com and Yellowpages.com. Oh, by
the way, make sure you have the area code matches the site
you are on. If it is a Canadian number, you will need to search
the information on Whitepages.ca instead of the .com.
Ok,
you have gone through these steps and have not found the number
yet. But this is kind of fun though, being your own detective.
Now for the next phase of your search. We are going to assume
that it is a cell phone now, since we have not been able to
locate it. We are going to start with our search engines.
Are you ready? We will first go to Google.com, then Yahoo.com,
then MSN.com. When you are in the search engine, you will
put the phone number in the search bar in quotations
like this: 800-555-1122 or 800 555-4444
and then hit search.
If
you have not found anything yet, dont give up. There
are still more great social networks to go through. These
include:
1.
MySpace.com
2. Craigslist.com
3. USFreeAds.com
4. GumTree.com
5. Blogger.com
6. WhoCalled.US (call complaint registry, public and totally
free)
7. Xanga.com
8. LiveJournal.com
9. BoardTracker.com
(BoardTracker
searches over 35,000 messages boards at one time. This is
a great investigational tool for you to use.)
What
we are trying to do is help you use every resource possible
online to trace who owns a telephone number that is calling
you. What a great feeling you will have if you find it. You
will have done excellent online investigation! But if you
dont find it, dont be too hard on yourself. There
are some numbers that are blocked for one reason or another.
But if the number is online, you will usually find it through
this process.

we discuss the next phone-tracing strategy, I need to
make something perfectly clear. The following techniques
may be unethical or even illegal if done improperly,
and in some areas, if even practiced at all.
Furthermore,
pretexting (or "pretending to be someone else")
in order to obtain personal information is considered
a CRIMINAL ACTIVITY in
most states.

The
next step, if the prior steps were not successful, is to call
the number. We know, we wouldnt want to call it either,
but this is your last resource that you can do on your own.
You can say something like, I saw your number on my
caller id, just wanted to follow up in case it was important,
or pretend you are calling about an ad in the paper. If they
say that you have the wrong number, then say that this is
the number you saw in the paper.
Ok,
maybe calling them is not an option. You definitely want to
trace who owns a telephone number of a caller that was threatening
or offensive. Maybe it was a call from some weirdo that you
never want to talk to or encourage to call again.
This
is when we "pull out the big guns" to trace who
owns a telephone number that continues to call - or that we
need to find out more about...
You
can actually purchase access to an exclusive database. This
can cost anywhere from $19 to $50, depending on what service
you choose. Most of these providers will not charge you if
you have a no-hit which means that the number
is not in their database.
We
just want you to know that you do have options and resources
to trace who owns a telephone number that is calling you or
harassing you. You have the power to fight back and put a
stop to it. And on the brighter note, maybe you will find
out it is a long lost friend who has been trying to find you
the exact same way. Good luck in your search!
